Tourist Information

The area around Saint-Germain-en-Laye and Versailles, west of Paris, is one of the most attractive parts of the Île-de-France region. Combining royal history, elegant town centres, beautiful parks and forests, it offers plenty to discover beyond the golf courses.
Region Essentials
Both Saint-Germain-en-Laye and Versailles are historic royal towns with charming centres, excellent restaurants, cafés, boutiques and traditional French markets.
Paris is within easy reach, making the area an ideal combination of golf, culture and French lifestyle. Saint-Germain-en-Laye is connected directly to central Paris by the RER A, while Versailles also has convenient rail connections to the capital.
The historic centres of both towns are best explored on foot. For visits to the Palace of Versailles, advance booking is highly recommended.
Culture & Heritage
Saint-Germain-en-Laye was once a royal residence and is dominated by its impressive château, today home to the National Archaeology Museum. The adjoining Domaine National and the famous Grande Terrasse, designed by André Le Nôtre, offer magnificent views across the Seine Valley towards Paris.
The town also has strong artistic connections. Composer Claude Debussy was born here, and his birthplace can be visited. Nearby, the romantic Château de Monte-Cristo, once the home of writer Alexandre Dumas, is another delightful cultural excursion.
In Versailles, the magnificent Palace of Versailles, its Hall of Mirrors and extensive gardens are naturally the main attraction. The Grand Trianon, Petit Trianon and Queen’s Hamlet provide a quieter and more intimate insight into royal life.
Beyond the Palace, the historic Notre-Dame and Saint-Louis districts reveal another side of Versailles, with elegant architecture, small shops, galleries, cafés and the lively Notre-Dame Market.
Activities & Attractions
There are many possibilities for enjoying the region away from the golf course.
Stroll through the Forest of Saint-Germain-en-Laye, walk along the Grande Terrasse or explore the picturesque banks of the Seine and the landscapes associated with the Impressionist painters.
In Versailles, enjoy a leisurely walk or bicycle ride through the vast Palace park, explore the gardens and fountains or take a boat out on the Grand Canal.
The local markets, boutiques and antique shops are perfect for discovering French food, craftsmanship and everyday life. And with Paris only a short journey away, an afternoon or evening in the capital can easily be included in your stay.
The region offers an exceptional combination of golf, French history, culture, gastronomy and the art of living – all within a beautiful green setting close to Paris.
